Daily Wishes

I love a good box set me, especially around the festive season and I plan to sit on my sofa come January hopefully surrounded by multiple box sets to devour. There are a few that I would like at the moment:
Boardwalk Empire would be nice
True Blood (as I never got round to watching it)
Mad Men (same as above)
To name a few, but what I would really like to have is:
The Sopranos please. Hopefully six seasons of that will keep my going for a while

Standard Post about X Factor....

So millions of bloggers will be posting about this and I'm not about to buck the trend. This is the first year I've not been able to watch it live/ in its entirety...so youtube it was had to be.

I admit I am one of those sad saps who crys at anything and this doesn't exclude X Factor so I'm happy I didn't get to see all the heart wrenching moments just the actual singing. I will admit I did get a little teary during the final song.

So the winner of 2011........the bookies favourite LITTLE MIX!!

I was always behind Little Mix, although I wanted The Risk to win to start with. But the girls were just so good. Not only do they look great and sing fantastically, they appear to be great role models for younger girls. I also wanted Tulisa to win out of the judges (sorry Gary, you will always be my favourite) but Tulisa got quite a lot of stick because she wasn't as successful as the other judges or that she wouldn't know what she is doing. And she has gone and produced possibly soon to be one of the biggest girl bands in the UK (fingers crossed). If not at least of this decade. Hopefully they can follow in the success footsteps of JLS and One Direction.

I probably will be buying their single and their album and everything to do with them.

Daily Wishes

Happy Sunday everyone... hope your all not too hungover today.
I had my first Christmas party last night with an open bar tab which was mildly dangerous...luckily the sheer amount of food I ate mopped up some of the alcohol.

With that in mind my daily wish for a stocking filler runs along the christmassy vibe. I would love Michael Buble's Christmas Album please. I want him to serenade me with his beautiful voice all day come the 25th December.

Daily Wishes Part 2

So now for my daily wish for today, which is kind of a double wish....
Now my actual wish would be for a White Christmas, however I know that wont happen, especially seeing as I will be spending it in Sydney (and here comes the double part, please Santa make it a wonderfully sunny day down under). But for my stocking so that it at least looks christmassy and white pop this to me.......

Daily Wishes

OK so I missed a day admittedly, but in fairness I am currently moving house...whilst on holiday might I add...two things I thought wouldn't go together.

My daily stocking filler wish from yesterday is as follows:
A new notebook, a personalised one at that would be great. This leather bound one from notonthehighstreet.com would be ideal. Now obviously Harriet is not my name, so please change it to Millie then it would be 100% perfect.

AWOL for a while but now I'm back.....

So I went a bit AWOL for a while. Uploading whilst swanning around Europe was not as easy as I thought it was going to be.
To start I thought I would just list some highlights from my 2 month trip:
1. Germany as a whole, however
2. Oktoberfest
3.Berlin - so much history to cram into 3 days
4 Prague - was not only beautiful, historically interesting, cheap and did I say beautiful...it had great bars/clubs. What more could you want from a city???
5. Food - I managed to eat my way across Europe quite successfully (Pizza in Naples is truly the best)
6. Train Travel- Interrailling was by far the best way to travel
and finally
7. The people that I met making the trip all worthwhile (*cheesy i know...but true*)

So to anyone thinking of taking an infamous Gap Yah, think outside the norm. Yeah backpacking around Asia is amazing and there is so much to see...and don't get me wrong Asia is great (I've been there done that) but there is so much to see in Europe that could keep you going for a year if not longer. And for all UK dwellers its right on our doorstep!! So why not???

I guess now that Ive done the travelling thing maybe I should start thinking of growing up....Or not

Madrid

Madrid lets say was a struggle ( a common theme on this trip). Ended up arriving pretty late to find out that our hostel which I had pre-booked was full and we had to go to another one. As we only had one night we had very little time to make the most of the city. The next morning we couldnt get a train out when we needed too meaning we missed our ferry to Ibiza. So very deflated we checked our luggage into the concierge and then ventured outside to find green space and food. Both proved near impossible. I was baffled by the sheer emptiness of a capital city. The green we did find was damp. So after sitting on a bench for an hour or two we made our way back to the train station. There was however a stunning turtle pond though - every cloud has a silver lining and all that rubbish!

Granada

So onto Granada, which started off as a bit of a struggle. Now unfortunately i do not speak any Spanish, other than the sheer basics, which I admit set me of on the back foot. however I tried my best to explain that I needed to make a seat reservation from Malaga to Granada, naively thinking that a train station would understand that. Evidently not! They proceeded to point me in the direction of the bus. After much explanation the sales person finally said "Ah a reservation" and gave me a look as if to say why didnt you say that in the first place you retard!
However after all of that and a change in Corboda, Granada was just wonderful. I had been assured from one of my best friends that it was. (She spent her ERASMUS year here). With a list of things to see and do i was set. I  felt a million miles away from Malaga now, it was such a difference. The cobbled streets and winding alleyways were so endearing I just wanted them to swallow me up. I had officially fallen in love. This is somewhere that I intend to come back to again and again.
I was send in search of Paddy's, the illustrious Irish pub spent her year in. Unfprtunately it was closed but I do think I managed a glimpse of him through the window. However all was not lost i managed to get a kebab from across the street in Kebab King. And it most certainly lives up to its name.
Granada was full of free tapas (good tapas), fantastic views, delicious leather products and an amazing night club. The hostel was the same chain as Malaga, but it was a lot older, no air con here. Which led to quite possibly THE worst and hottest night sleep of my life.
Two days was just simply not enough.!

And So It Begins......

Firstly please excuse if there are many mistakes in this, the computer that I am typing this up on is French and it is telling me that every word is spelt incorrectly and the keyboard is not a QWERTY one, so I apologise in advance!!! Secondly I cant upload any photos either :(
Day one of EuroTrip starts off at 6.50am on an early morning flight from Gatwick. Destination Malaga.
Upon arrival it was evident that we were not dressed for September in Spain, this was  not aiding our extreme struggles yet to experience in this country.
So ambitiously we decided to get the train to the city centre and then walk to the hostel. Why we thought that this would be a good idea I have no clue. Question? Why does Spain insist on having cobbled streets?
Finally arriving at our hostel aptly named Oasis, and quite frankly that is what it was. Our first experience of a hostel was being greeted (albeit he wasn't greeting, merely walking out of th bathroom after a shower) by a semi toweled man emerging from the bathroom. He was about as surprised as we were, quickly retreating to arrange himself before re-emerging. Now I am not one to usually comment on physique but this man was a GOD. As if he was straight out of 300. All me and the sister could do was to look at each other with a look of "things surely are on the up from here."
Walking around Malaga is pretty nice, nothing to great, but pleasant. Very little tourists about which is always nice. Theres a nice beach which was fairly quiet and a very domineering cathedral but other than that, not much else exciting.
For those who are looking at using hostels the one I stayed in comes highly recommended!! Good price, air con, private bathroom all you really need.

Things I'm Loving at the Moment

This skirt from Topshop is an ultimate fave. I have it already on Maroon but shall be purchasing it in the green before I go on my travels, just to add to the ever expanding maxi skirt collection.

Jar of Hearts by Christina Perri. I'm expecting big things from this lady. At the moment it's up there with Ed Sheeran. Whilst mentioning him I think I am starting to like You Need Me, I Dont Need You more than The A Team. Have a listen it's pretty good.

I'm also into everything a bit travel related at the moment. Mini/ handbag sized toiletries are becoming my weakness!! That and travel books! I swear my suitcase will be filled purely of travel books and shampoo on Monday!

Rise of The Planet of the Apes

Not only does this film have a ridiculous name to say...try it...it's such a mouthful! It's not particularly actioned filled.
Now I admit I did go and watch it the evening I got back from Creamfields which possibly was an error and I didn't read up on it much so I didn't know what to expect.
But I just found it a bit dull. All the action was right at the end! And a chimp riding a horse was a bit strange.
However there were some touching moments in it and it was pleasant to watch.

And well James Franco is beautiful so why am I even complaining that I got to spend 2 hours staring at him!

The Inbetweeners

Aside from One Day, I will nominate this as my favourite film of the year, if not ever!

I am utterly impressed so much so that I saw it twice in a week! It's been a very long time since I laughed all the way through pretty much start to finish.

I'm so glad that it was such a hit because if it wasn't it might have just tainted the TV show for me.

Fav scene: Simon, Neil and Will dancing over to the girls in that dive of a bar
Fav line: "I think we might just be players"
Fav character: will always have to be Jay (Although Neil did come a close second in the film)

If you haven't seen it yet- what is wrong with you it's been out ages get yourself down to the cinema

Creamfields

So I haven't posted in a while mainly because I am physically and mentally recovering from Creamfields still.
So here it is: Creamfields 2011 was quite possibly the best weekend of my life (holding judgement until this weekend in Camberley I'm sure it could rival-just maybe).

Despite the huge amounts of mud, rain, more mud it did not dampen my spirits at all.
So 1 big tick for me, first ever festival and first time camping and I survived!
Ultimate highlight for me was with out a doubt Swedish House Mafia. In a packed out sweaty tent on Sunday night I was in my element. Only suggestion should have been on one of the outside stages!
Other than that Laidback Luke was amazing as was Skrillex.
Oh and the running festival joke of ALAN will actually haunt me in my sleep. I resent the day anyone named their child Alan!

Roll on 2012: tickets went on sale on Friday!!!!!!!!!

This Weekend

I am truly gutted that I wont be getting my yearly fix of Jerk Chicken on Portobello Road this weekend. Nottinghill Carnival has played a large part of my Bank Holiday Weekend for the past two years it will be odd not spending it there.
Instead I will be getting up at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning to drive to Daresbury, Cheshire for a weekend of music, cider, camping and hopefully no rain. Creamfields will be my home for 2 nights this weekend before the sure to be unbearable journey all the way back to Surrey on Monday morning (How I am going to manage this I haven't quite worked out - so we shall see how it goes), and I cant wait, beyond excited.
Its a whole bunch of new experiences for me, first time festival, first time camping (eek) and seeing as its forcasted to rain it doesn't bode well.

I'm semi- prepared as in I have wellies and a tent, that's pretty much it!

So wish me luck

Bombshell

New discovery of mine last night.
Colin Hanks (of Get Over It fame) is only Tom Hanks's son!! Now its written down on paper and the photo is right here, well its quite obvious. They look alike they sound scarily similar. But I was blissfully unaware until that bombshell was dropped on me.
Not that its a problem, I just cant believe I have never realised it before now.

One Day - Post II

So last night I went and saw the most hotly anticipated film of the year for me. I entered the cinema in all a fluster unable to settle. To say that I was stressed out would be an understatement.
I was worried about a multitude of things most of all how I was going to cope? (not well) How Miss Hathaway will sound? (ok) How Em and Dex would work? (Brilliantly). So in amongst this I was having a mini panic attack during the previews. Then as the film started the screen went off centre and it was half way up the wall. The sentence “Vue why are you doing this to me?” actually eeked out of my mouth as if it was a personal attack to my nerves. Alas it was all resolved and I settled down for quite possibly the best adaptation of a book into a film I’ve ever seen! This is not said lightly as I am a massive advocate of NEVER touching books and making them into a film, I just don’t think they work – unless they are filmed in two 3 hours epics in two halves (aka Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). But this text lent itself to the big screen, and although things have had to be cut and changed around it was done so well.

I nearly started the crying off right at the very beginning as the film opens at their graduation and I started to feel desperately nostalgic, but I managed to hold it together.

So things that I liked:
  • The Music! The song choices were so fitting. Even managed to fit in a wee bit of S Club 7 and Ronan which the child inside me LOVED.
  • The clothes! Hitting that 90’s vibe well and truly on the head. The stylist got everything down to an absolute T (even the set designs were fabulous – Emma’s University room was pretty much as I imagined – however most university rooms are pretty standard). Emma’s geeky yet pretty floral dresses were so Emma and her hair was just as it was in my imagination, especially in her early years. The scene at Tilly’s wedding was almost perfect, Emma’s Chinese dress again just as I imagined it.

Also whilst on Tilly's wedding quite possibly my favourite moment of the entire film...Tilly singing Angels (to which Kathryn leans in and says "Farah on her wedding day" - which lead to uncontrollable laughter)
  •  I liked that certain parts of the film were left out/ not mentioned (very rare that I would like this – normally I am all moany about this)

Things I loved:
  • Ian Whitehead who was played by Rafe Spall, who in my eyes stole the show. Brilliant casting, amazing acting, he just grasped Ian’s character perfectly although he looked a little like Lou in Little Britain.
  • I loved how Anne and Jim connected; it really felt like they were Em and Dex falling in love for real.
  • I absolutely adored Romola Garai (from The Hour very good British Drama for those who haven’t heard of it also played Briony Tallis in the movie version of Atonement) as Sylvie.
  • Finally I have reignited my sheer adoration for Jim Sturgess! He is one beautiful human being and to quote my friend Kathryn during the film “fit man and baby – god your killing me”. Watching him break down was genuinely heart-breaking.

Things I hated:
  • ‘That Scene’ – so wonderfully done but I hate it for what it is and I cant change that.
  • The fact that they go on holiday to France instead of Greece and Dex teaches English in Paris not where he does actually in Rome. But they are very minor details that I can learn to live with.

To end:
I was utterly a puddle! I had to physically restrain myself from bawling my heart out. If I wasn’t in the cinema some seriously loud crying would have happened. The women next to us looked at us as if we were mental and uttered the words “it’s not sad”. Well either I am a complete emotional wreck or they have hearts of stone either way I was near inconsolable. If your planning on watching be prepared, take tissues! But it was hilarious too.

I will be watching it again and again and again.
Favourite book, now favourite film….cant wait for the DVD and DVD extras (purely so I can perv on Jim Sturgess in the privacy of my own home)

One more little note:
Fav quote from the book and now film

ONE DAY

So the film adaptation of One Day finally comes to our screens tomorrow and quite frankly I cannot wait. For those of you who do not know what I am talking about then WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN since 2009! But for those people who don't know here is a basic synopsis: (spoiler alert)
Dex meets Em at Graduation
Dex and Em spend the night together
Dex and Em spend the next 20 years of their lives meeting on St Swithin's Day (15th August) each year - a few holidays and weddings thrown in
Dex and Em are never quite Em and Dex until right at the very end!
Its a very up and down tale of two best friends throughout mainly 90's (my favourite era might I add)  and 00's and what happens in their lives along the way
IT IS A MUST READ/SEE (please please please read the book - if not before you go and watch the film at least ONCE in your life)
It stars the wonderfully talented and beautiful Anne Hathaway as Em (although her Yorkshire accent might be a bit dubious) and the even more beautiful Jim Sturgess as Dex. Rafe Spall (a personal favourite of mine) plays boyfriend Ian  and with the director being Lone Scherfig (prev An Education) is poses to be a stunning film.
I have yet to watch the trailer without crying so I feel a lot of tissues will be needed tomorrow night at 19.40pm.

A Sad Farewell

I wanted to dedicate this post to two of my favourite people in the whole world! They have both recently departed me to become the dreaded words "grown ups".

Firstly to my beloved Francesca:
Who has moved from Surrey to PENZANCE: which is by the way a very long drive away google map
However I do wish her all the very best in her new pad with her gentleman friend.
There will be many trips down to the coast to visit!

Secondly to this wonder of a women Farah:
She only recently departed with a tearful trip to Heathrow Departures - never a happy place.
I wish her the best of luck with her new temporary (I'd like to add) life in Dubai sippin G (10% stronger) & T by the poolside.

New Blog

So I'm new to all this blogging malarkey but I thought I'd give it a shot.
Who am I?
Well I am currently 22 years old (wishing I was still my 15 year old self - and in many aspects still am). Living at home, about to travel, soon to be in full time employment (sad face).
Why am I?
Recent graduate of Fashion so thought as my life is now going to change dramatically (becoming an official adult) I thought that starting a blog would be a brilliant idea.
What is it going to be?
Well an amalgamation of many things...things I like, things I want, things I lust after, but for the near future it will consist of my travels around the world which I am about to embark on!

Enjoy
