Farewell Katie...

Today I found out that What Katie Wore is no more (couple of weeks late I know), and I'm actually quite sad about it. This was possibly one of the first blogs that I read way back in 2009 when it started, and truth be told like many other people is the reason why I started my own blog. I was always in awe of simplicity of it, posting a photo of what you wear, how utterly simple yet marvellous at the same time. I also fell in love with Joe the other half for taking and writing about the outfits each day.
And all because of a little bet because he never wrote her any love letters!! TOO CUTE.

Lets hope there is a Joe out there for all of us...

Today I'm Wearing...

So today it was bloody freezing.... apprently there was some snow flurries but much to my disapointment I didnt see any. (To the lady in Wagamama's you lied). So I thought that my jumper and tights combo would have been fine...it wasnt!! Anyway the jumper I got in BHS of all places, but I love its dipped hem, bit of a fetish of mine at the moment. Teamed with tube skirt and a chunky necklace that I picked up from Diva in Australia and im done. Oh and my trusty Converse.

TOWIE...

OK so I'm not even ashamed to be blogging about this...everyone has their own guilty pleasures and mine is TOWIE (The only way is Essex to all those who have no idea/ don't care/ have been living in a hole for the last 2 years).

Back for the fourth season and I couldn't be happier to have those tanned, physically enhanced, on the verge of thick human beings back on my TV screen. Its utterly ridiculous and that's why I love it. And to all you cynics that say that they are all actors etc...have you watched the show? do you really think they could act? I literally cannot get enough of watching other peoples lives, its just like people watching, but from the comfort and warmth of my own home.

So drama...
To my despair the lovable Arg and stunning Lydia are on a break, I adore this couple and was in shock when it opened with that bombshell!! To see Arg and Lydia (and Debbie) all in tears I was close to breaking down myself. (In my defence I had just watched Birdsong so I was feeling more than a little vulnerable). And all I could think of was wouldn't it be nice if Arg had his actual best friend to talk too. Bring back Mark Wright is all I have to say on that matter!!
The usual Essex antics were going on. And I can see a potential break up between the gorgeous Mario and Lucy.
Joey Essex lights up my world. I would like to shrink him to Polly Pocket size (the old traditional ones not the new non-pocket size) and carry him around to hear his Joeyisms at all times.
Who couldn't love this....
Looking forward to this episode....

Birdsong Part 2...

So part two of the fabulous adaptation of Birdsong aired on the BBC on Sunday, and like part one it didn't fail to impress me. OK so it may have been slow and not really that much happened, but that was part of its beauty for me.
This time round however Clemence Poesey did annoy me slightly she seemed a bit more wooden which I didn't like. But aside from that the relationship between Firebrace and Stephen that blossomed was just stunning, as it was in the book. That moment when Stephen has to leave Firebrace to die underground really got me teary. I think if I didn't know the plot already I would have been a much bigger mess at that whole scene then I was. Also who could possibly hold back the tears when the entire company goes over the top. (Scenes like that will always remind me of Blackadder Goes Forth. Calling me emotional would not even cover it.

Now what is going to fill the 9pm slot on the BBC??!! No Sherlock, no Birdsong....however will I cope.

Today I'm Wearing...

So two of my most recent Today I'm Wearing posts bundled together...
Going out to Sainsburys in my local is almost on par with an arctic expedition. So wrapping up warm is essential. A thick woolly jumper is always necessary, as is a coat, scarf, gloves and in some cases a hat!

Day two and I'm going out for a pub lunch and the cinema (saw J.Edgar - see my next post for review). This old topshop top is perfect for throwing on with a tube skirt and cardi. Along with my bastard loafers (I will break you in before summer) and some tights, perfect for a chilly January day.

War, Love, History & A Beautiful Gentleman...

Enter another superb BBC British period drama, along with new man of the minute Eddie Redmayne as the lead role. I know this is a few days late, but WOW the BBC have done good again. Birdsong, like many other English Literature A-Level students across the country became the bane of their lives. But for me it was the complete opposite. I loved every minute of it. In fact when I had to read it for the first time 6 years ago I utterly fell in love with it, and with the main character Stephen Wraysford. From that day on I started a love affair with the author Sebastian Faulks and everything he has written.
But this is about Birdsong and the recent television adaptation
The first part of this two part mini series showed on Sunday night, and some may say that it was slow, which is was, but it was beautiful. In this episode you see the younger Stephen in Amiens when he first meets and his love affair starts with the stunning Isabelle played by Clemence Poesey. It flits between the past and the future war torn France.
The basic war plot is primarily about the tunnellers under the trenches and leads up to Stephen going underground with the men to maintain morale. They come across some German soldiers and Stephen gets shot and thought dead. The closing scenes are the most heart wrenching when everyone thinks that he is in fact dead. But hey we all know he isn't, whether you've read the book or not, because there is still another hour and half episode to go. And lets face it they cant all be flashbacks of a dead man!

Now enough of war and sadness more about the lead, Eddie Redmayne. Now isn't he a beautiful specimen of a man. Not only has he nailed the posh Englishman in Birdsong, he was also in the smash hit My Week With Marilyn, Pillars of the Earth and Tess of the D'Urbervilles. So he has pretty much covered all period acting he could.
Not only that he makes a fantastic model. Burberry have snapped him up for their new SS 12 campaign.

In fact they have used him before, he is with Agnes Deyn back in 2008....hes aged well

Today I'm Wearing...

I've neglected my Today I'm Wearing posts recently so here's a bunch from the last few days....

Trip out shopping (as per usual) on a particularly warm January day. I thought I would brave it with a sheer over throw with just a singlet on underneath and a light quilted jacket on top. The deceptively warm weather got to me...it was freezing!!!! But I do love my bow clip in my hair though, dug this out from my school days back at WCS (Westminster Christian School in Miami) from the wee tender age of 5.
Popping out to Waitrose and I came over all gap year student... Tiger Vest picked up from a obligatory trip to a market in Asia. Denim shirt, leggings, done.
Shopping again (all I ever seem to do nowadays) but just threw on a mans Lyle and Scott cardigan which I love, over a singlet and leggings. My bastard loafers from Topshop to finish up the outfit. Still to this day a year on they rip open my heels...WHY???
Quick side note on the cardi...best part of having men in your life you ask....well their clothes of course. I borrowed/stole this from an ex a while back and I refuse to let it go.

Hello Affordable Lagerfeld...

Calling all bargain hunters...OK maybe not a bargain but in comparison to the normal Chanel prices it feels like it. OK so £75 for a tee is hardly affordable but when you look at the shirt prices, £125 doesn't seem that bad when you would be paying around the same amount in the likes of Whistles, Reiss or Hobbs.
The collection goes live on net-a-porter.com on the 25th January. While your waiting log onto net-a-porter and enter their fab competition to win a weekend for two in Paris. Whats that I hear you say "I haven't got anything to wear" well they have thrown in £5000 to spend on the site...what more to you need.

Jonathan Saunders

Pretty pastels, vivid yet beautiful prints and a slim line fit...no ladies its not Spring Summer and no ladies its not womenswear. Jonathan Saunders showcased his first collection at Milan this week, and has not failed to impress. Now this may be menswear but there is plenty here that you would want to steal from your boyfriend/husband/brother/dad all of the above. All I need now is a man to steal from.

This pastel coral jacket is just simply divine and I would kill to have it in my wardrobe. In fact stick a female model in any of these ensembles and you'd be forgiven in thinking it was a fabulous showcase of androgeny.

Valentines...

Ok so im a little early with this post, but in the post this morning I received not on the hightstreet's valentine promotional material. I was almost sick right there and then on my doorstep. But on a second look there are some undeniably cute things in there, for example "you're just my cup of tea" mug and endless personalised items.
One of the cutest and most personal items you can buy is a personalised morse code bracelet
But what really stood out for me, and something that I think I will actually just buy for myself is this:
It may just look like any old map, but its a special map. The whole things is covered in gold leaf and you scratch away the countries you have visited. Ive always said that Ive wanted to do this in some way and this is an easy way to produce something personal.

Wishlist...

I hate being unemployed, to me it means that I cant justify buying clothes at all. Going shopping doesn't really help this heartache but oh well. I stumbled across this 3/4 length dress in Topshop (surprise, surprise). Now I tried it on in black but I cant seem to locate it. Anyway here it is, I want it desperately...

Milan Menswear Fashion Week...

So other than the golden globes which everyone has been raving about in the past 24 hours, but now its time to look to the future, Milan fashion week has begun, for the men anyway. Designer's showcasing whats to come for Autumn/Winter 12/13. Although my true passion lies in womenswear, there are so many things about menswear that I love. Fundamentally take the clothes for example, they will generally have a similar outlook and style of garments, but the detailing is so very different from designer to designer. Three shows really stood out for me:

Firstly Vivienne Westwood...
I love her style, and I always love what she does with womenswear. This is the first show of menswear that Ive followed and I was impressed. Undeniably Viv's talents with tweed, checks and plaids is her strong suit. And quote literally her strong suit in the case of menswear.

With the models looking positively chilled with their frost filled beards, moustaches and hair the inspiration behind the collection screams cold. The collection is said to be dedicated to Sir David Attenborough and why not he is a legend. And as old Viv always manages to highlight some crisis that's happening to the world, and this time is melting Polar Ice Caps. The gents down the catwalk look like the least likely to be heading to any pole however if they did they would look ever so dashing.

Next up is the wonderful Burberry Prorosum...
I simply love what Christopher Bailey has done with the brand. Everything is so clean cut and elegant both in women's and menswear. The collection was entitled "The Gentleman Afterwards" and is when the country meets the city. Which to me quite frankly is what Burberry is, how quintessentially British. For me the men strolling down the catwalk trench coat on, umbrella in hand and iPad case under the arm is exactly the commuting man's wardrobe. He needs nothing else as he swans off the train at Waterloo, Kings Cross, Paddington, Victoria or in this case Milan. And how else to start a catwalk show from a British brand...oh with rain of course.

I defy any man to put on a Burberry trench coat and not feel like an utter gentleman.
Now one more from the collection, my favourite piece, possibly my favourite shirt ever made...

Finally Prada...
My favourite part of the whole show was the closing. During one of the most important weeks in Hollywood Miuccia Prada uses some of the biggest male actors to close her show. Names like:
Jamie Bell; Tim Roth; Adrien Brody; Willem Dafoe and the one and only Gary Oldman.

The collection to me shouted out royal military decadence. Flowers and sungalsses were worn in top pockets like medals.  The men were wonderfully suited in beautiful tailoring from basic suits to a full three piece with overcoat. Commanding the court Gary Oldman looked magnificent.

Until the next shows....

Winners...

Ok so I know that I said that I didn't really care about the winners of the Golden Globes, but saying that I am proud of one particular winner, Idris Elba. I am a mega Luther fan and quite frankly have a small crush on him (him being Luther). Fingers crossed for a third series.

Golden Globes Best Dressed...

Now for my best dressed list, which is a little bit longer.
First up Octavia Spencer...

Next Dame Helen Mirren...
Next Meryl Streep...
Couldn't be further from the Iron Lady here. She as always looks regal, beautiful, sexy, elegant, lady like, classic yet cutting edge all in one look. This woman is a masterpiece on legs.

Next up is Shailene Woodley...
She's burst onto the scene with as George Clooney's daughter in The Descendants (although some people may remember her as Marissa's little sister Kaitlin in The O.C) and doesn't she just look wonderful.

Next up Selma Hayek...
Good old Selma never fails to impress but shes gone and outdone herself on this gorgeous Gucci number. It flatters her endlessly, I want to know what strapless bra shes wearing because I wish my boobs looked that amazing in a strapless dress.

Next is my favourite girl of the moment Zooey Deschanel...
I am currently having a love affair with this women, she doesn't know it but I am completely besotted with her. She is just stunningly beautiful, in fact mesmerising!

Now for my best dressed I was torn between three lovely ladies, and I still am so here's all three...
Kate Winslet
Mila Kunis &
Emma Stone

Golden Globes Worst Dressed...

So the rich, famous and fabulous stars of our favourite films and television turned out in full force for the Annual Golden Globes awards. But who cares who won what, what I really care about it who WORE what, and how they wore it. So here it is my two part Golden Globes guide to best and worst dressed.
Kicking things off with the worst dressed list is Kelly Osbourne...

Zac Posen...well his dresses are marvellous and this one does have every promise of being spectacular, on the right person. Yes Kelly O looks fab now she's shed all that weight but this in my opinion just isn't doing anything for her. Now look at Reese Witherspoon or Claire Danes the both chose Zac Posen and look positively splendid. P.S. Kelly sort your hair out its not a particularly favourable shade of granny grey.

OK so oops #2 goes to Maya Rudolph...
God knows what was going through her mind, its just so dull and completely unimaginative. Now don't get me wrong she looks beautiful (neck up however). The dress is just so utterly forgettable.

#3 goes to the stunning Charlize Theron...
Now I don't know whether its just V.Unfortunate camera angles but Ive yet to see a flattering photo of this dress. Firstly bubblegum pink and an Alice band just screams "honest I'm innocent and cute", you are not, you are 36 years of age, an Alice band is not appropriate for such a formal event. Now the ruffle at the side of the dress....Question what its purpose? it appears to be attached as an after thought. Not feeling it Dior, sorry.

#4 is handed to Romola Gari (which personally I am deeply disappointed about)...
I love Romola Gari, I think she is truly magnificent, however I do not this is.

Finally my worst dressed of the evening goes to again another uncontrollably beautiful women, Jessica Biel...
Why does such a beautiful women feel compelled to wear a doily???
